There’s something truly magical about photographing families in the sunflower and oat fields at Davis Family Farm in Caledon. This session with a gorgeous family of four reminded me exactly why I love this location. Sunflower season is magical especially when it’s shared with a beautiful family like this one. Their colour palette was perfect for the oat and sunflower fields at Davis Family Farm in Caledon.

From the moment we arrived, the sunlight filtering over the oats created the softest, dreamiest glow. This family chose pastels—soft pinks, light blues, and creamy neutrals—which were absolutely stunning against the golden fields. These colours not only photograph beautifully but also enhance the natural tones of the landscape.

When Is the Best Time for a Sunflower Session?

Timing is everything. I always begin sunflower field sessions after 6:00 PM, with 6:30–7:30 PM being ideal on sunny days. The sun sits lower in the sky, creating soft, warm light without harsh flares that can overpower the flowers and faces.

Yes, it’s a little later than usual for kids but I promise, it’s worth it. Families that embrace the golden hour always walk away with photos that feel like magic.

Let the Kids Be Kids

These sessions are not about posing perfectly they’re about play, connection, and presence. The kids ran through the fields, paused for snuggles, gave kisses, and picked little flowers for mom. I was simply there, quietly documenting all the love.
